I’ve been so busy lately, with friends’ weddings,
graduations and just getting ready for the summer. I haven’t even had
time to think about names ? Maybe I’m just subconsciously avoiding it.
So this week, I thought I’d just give you some thoughts to help you get
through your pregnancy:
1. Take advantage
of your husband while you can. You’ll never get treated this well again.
2. Same goes for your friends, and even strangers. It’s amazing how nice
complete strangers can be.
3. Don’t get depressed about getting fat – everyone does. In fact,
this is the one time you can eat whatever you want, as much as you want without
feeling guilty. Enjoy it while you can!
4. It gets worse before it gets better…

I give up. I’ve decided to let the celebrities pick
my baby’s name. What I plan to do is use the baby name from the most famous
celebrity that gives birth right before me. Based on recent celebrity births,
I could end up with names like Shiloh Nouve (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie),
Bluebell Madonna (Gwen Stefani), Suri (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) or Moses
(Gweneth Paltrow).
I’m just kidding of course, but it sure would be nice if it was that easy!

The pressure is on! Everyone
keeps asking me what names we have chosen. Ugh. Everyone has an idea. My mother
wants me to name our child after my late father – Edwin. I guess Edward
be ok for a boy, but what would I name a girl? Edwina? That’s so old fashioned.
Of course my mother-in-law has her opinions too. She thinks we should honor
her parents (my husband’s grandparents). Their names were Mortimer and
Lilly. Lilly, I could deal with. But Morimer? Morty? I’ll never make my
poor child suffer through life (apologies to all the Mortimers out there).

Here are my current favorite
names. For a girl Jasmine, Holly, Skyler, Brianna, Brittany or Lara. For a boy
Joshua, Kyle, Blake, Todd or Sean. My husband hates them all!! I’m not
sure if we’re ever going to agree. It may come down to flipping a coin!
I hope not. When I ask him what names he likes, he just shrugs and says he doesn’t
like any of the ones I picked. Some help he is! Well, if he doesn’t find
some names of his own, he’s going to be stuck with whatever I pick. Ha,
ha…that will show him.

I can’t believe how
hard this is!!! I want to pick a name that I like, but also want to make sure
it’s a name my child will be happy with. I always hated my own name, Joan,
and don’t want my kids to feel the same way. My husband hasn’t been
much help in choosing baby names. He tells me to pick out my favorites, and
then he’ll tell me which ones he likes. So far, he’s hated them
all! If he doesn’t start helping, I’m going to stop caring what
he thinks.
I asked my mom what she thinks – boy, what a mistake. Not surprisingly, she stuck with old fashioned, traditional names like Harry, Ruth, Betty, James and even Horace! Horace? I’m not even sure if that’s a boys or girls name. I think it was easier to conceive this baby than find a name!

So, I’ve narrowed down
my list of favorite girl and boy names. We still don’t know the gender
– but it’s more fun to keep picking boy and girl names. Plus, we’ll
be ready the next time around. Here’s what I’m leaning towards for
girl names: Rachel, Jordan, Jill, and Tara. If it’s a boy, here are the
names I like: Jordan (again!), Brian, Blake, Evan or Todd. Of course, I’ll
probably have new favorites next week! I don’t even want to know what
my husband thinks…

We haven’t made much
progress. Ugh! We each have a list of about 10 top baby names we like. The baby
name book has been a real big help. I look at it whenever I have free time,
and circle the baby names that I like the best.
I seem to be having a harder time with girl names than with boy names. There seems to be a lot more unique girl names than unique boy names. Oh well…at least we have lots of time to decide.

So, the arguments have already started with my husband about what we
should name our baby. He likes Sarah, Sasha and Nicole for girl names and Jason,
Blake or Henry for boy names. Henry? Sasha? I really don’t think those
are good baby names.
I decided to buy a popular baby names book that I can carry around and read wherever I go. I think I’ll start with the girl names and then the boy names. I also looked at the list of top 100baby names, but I’m not sure if I want a popular baby name or a unique baby name. I’ll keep you updated…..

My name is Joan, and I’m a first-time mother to be. I’m
writing this blog to share my experiences in picking out our baby name. I’m
12 weeks in, and we haven’t decided if we want to know the gender. So,
we’re going to pick out both baby boy names and baby girl names.
Where do I start? There are a ton of web sites that list baby names. That seems to be the way to go. But there are so many baby names to choose from. Do I look at the top baby names? Do I look at baby name meanings and origins? How can I find a unique baby name? Everyone has advice for me and has their favorite baby names. But I think we’ll do this ourselves, and not let anyone else tell us what to name our baby.
