Choosing Baby Girl Names

When I was expecting my first daughter, I knew I didn't want her to have too unusual of a name, for that reason it was important for my husband and I to find popular girl names. However, not just any popular names would do. With help from the internet, we were able to compile a list of baby girl names we knew we'd like.

As we looked over our list of baby girl names, we worried that it would be hard to pick one because so many of the girl baby names were beautiful, not to mention popular. Victoria, Grace, Destiny, Amber, and Madison were our top five choices.

Our top five picks were all fairly popular girl names, not only among my husband and I, but our friends, too - we knew that we'd have to narrow our choices if we were ever going to pick a name. We decided we needed a new approach.

The second time around, we took our list of baby girl names and decided to see what the definitions of the names were. After we looked up the definitions, we were fairly disheartened because we didn't like a lot of the meanings of the girl baby names we had. However, on the bright side our list had shrunk dramatically.

Destiny and Amber were now the most appealing girl baby names available. Destiny means "for which you were meant to do," and Amber means "Precious jewel." As far as names a girl could have, we felt that these were by far, the cream of the crop.

When it came to deciding which of these two were best, we decided to make yet another list of baby girl names. The list included Destiny and Amber as well as a handful of other popular girl names that we found on the internet. By doing this, we'd get to see how our top picks stood up against other girl's names - even though we had a hearts set on Destiny or Amber, we knew our experiment could only help.

Fortunately, things went according to plan and our top picks held up against the more typically popular girl names. In the end, we decided to go with Amber. While we liked some of the other girl baby names, we knew that our first daughter was going to be very special to us, just like a precious jewel.
