2004, A Homerun For Baby Naming
2004 was a historic year for my wife and I, not just because we had our first son, but because the Red Sox finally won the World Series! Alright, maybe that applies more to me, but, with so much going on in the world, we knew it was going to be tough narrowing down our top 100 boy names. We had to be cautious of what to pick and what to eliminate from the top 100 baby boy names we'd found.
With so many famous people and historic events going on, we wanted to make sure that our son wouldn't be the millionth kid in his class named after someone famous. But, unlike the Red Sox, we didn't have 86-years to give this baby a name.
Some say that hindsight is 20/20, but I think we made the right choice naming our son Kevin Tyler McDonald. The name Kevin ranked number 32 on the popular 2004 baby boy names list, available at www.babynamestop100.com. Kevin also happens to mean handsome or beautiful, and with my wife's genes, he's sure to live up to that title.
Kevin also happens to be the name of two Boston Red Sox, but, that's just a bonus, or so my wife thinks. The name Tyler ranked 15 on the 2004 baby boy names list. Other close calls were Kyle and Cole, stemming from Nicholas. One thing's for sure, all of our choices came from top 100 boy names lists.
With the 2004 baby boy names list now readily available I'm sure it'll be easy for future parents to go down the top 100 baby boy names and highlight their favorites. However, my wife and I were pretty well positioned to hit a homerun with only the top 100 baby boy names list available. There hasn't been much fluctuation among the top 100 boy names since 1990.
Other 2004 baby boy names that we found appealing we're mostly in the mid-range of the top 100 boy names. While Jacob, Michael, and Joshua are ranked among the top 100 baby boy names, mid-range names are great because they're unique without being too unique. But, don't be dissuaded by that latter half of the top 100 baby boy names, there are thousands of names out there, and these top 100 boy names represent the cream of the 2004 baby boy names' crop.
On the 2004 baby boy names list, you won't find any Quincys, Herberts, or Melvins, although unlike Baseball, naming babies isn't a competition. If you happen to like Quincy, Herbert, or Melvin - go for it, because the top 100 baby boy names are what we make of them.
